About the Course
Becoming a qualified teacher and assessor will see you training the next generation of fitness professionals. The demand for this position has never been greater, with opportunities to build careers with educational bodies, vocational training providers, or independent registers like REPs.
This lucrative career is entirely flexible, allowing you to pursue employment opportunities fill time, or alongside your existing career.
Whilst on this course, you’ll acquire teaching and assessing skills required to plan and deliver lessons for both in-person students, and those using digital learning materials. You will also learn how to assess official examinations and coursework to meet the highest industry standards.
Course Length: Typically, this course takes around 8 weeks to complete
Entry Requirements: There are no qualification prerequisites for this course, however you will only be able to teach courses up to the level of fitness qualification you already hold. Students must also be aged 16 or older to enrol.
Accreditations: This course is accredited by both REPS and CIMSPA.

What You’ll learn
OriGym’s Fitness Teaching and Assessing Course is split into two separate qualifications: one in teaching and the other in assessing.
When combined you’ll be equipped to deliver learning materials, whilst also knowing how to evaluate different kinds of formal assessments.
Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education
You’ll learn how to manage the student-teacher relationship and more about the role you play as a course instructor.
This includes learning your responsibilities as a teacher in terms of the welfare of students and other tutors, in order to create a supportive learning environment.
Using Inclusive Teaching Approaches
Our Fitness Teaching and Assessing course will walk you through strategies that are inclusive for all students including diverse demographics with different needs. This is essential for ensuring that all your students feel safe, welcome and supported during their course.
Facilitating Group Learning
Covering the theories of learning, teaching and assessment processes, in this module you’ll be taught how to run inductions and icebreakers, as well as how to set ground rules for group sessions to develop an effective learning environment.
Principles and Practices of Assessment
We’ll teach about the different types of assessment methods in fitness courses, how to plan assessment days, legal requirements and how to manage quality assurance during the assessment process. You’ll also have the opportunity to shadow an assessment day for real OriGym students.
How You’ll Be Assessed
To complete both awards on the Teaching and Assessing programme, you will be required to complete an observational assessment with witness testimonies.

Study Options
OriGym’s Fitness Teaching and Assessing course is taught via blended learning, combining online studying with in-person practical workshops and assessments.
You’ll be able to begin learning the day you enrol, working on our bespoke e-learning platform at a pace that suits you.
Our tutoring staff will also be available on chatbox, via email, or by phone to assist you any way they can whilst you do that and help answer any of your questions.
You then have practical workshops in one of our nationwide venues so you can benefit from our expert in-person tutoring team and get hands-on experience.
Careers & Progression
Becoming a qualified teacher and assessor means that you will be able work in a range of vocational education institutions, such as reputable course providers like ourselves!
In terms of how you can progress and develop your career, keep in mind you’re only able to teach and assess on courses you’ve personally completed.
Therefore if you’re looking to progress your career you will need to acquire specialist Level 4 Personal Trainer Qualification, or branch into a new discipline with OriGym’s Sports Massage courses or Yoga Teacher Training courses.
You won’t need insurance for your teaching specifically, or to secure any roles as a teacher or assessor, but you will usually need a clear DBS certificate.
Will I Need to Have Completed Other Courses Before Starting the Fitness Teacher and Assessor Course?
There are no prerequisites to enrol on the course as you’ll be learning skills to plan and deliver other people’s learning. However, you can only teach on a course you’re qualified in so you may need to complete further personal trainer qualifications in order to teach them.

Due to the hybrid nature of it, you can finish the Fitness Teaching and Assessing course in your own time. How long it will take you will just depend on how quickly you move through the online learning materials!
However, on average the Fitness Tutor and Assessor course takes 8 weeks to complete.
You’ll qualify with both a teaching qualification and an assessor qualification meaning you’ll learn all of the practical skills to deliver lessons and mark and evaluate people’s assessments.
You’ll learn practical skills for lessons and assessments, making them safe and exclusive. You’ll also learn all the knowledge you’ll need of the legalities, roles, and responsibilities of an educational environment.
